Mixtikl

First used in Brian Eno's 1996 publication "Generative Music 1", the term “generative music” refers to “music that is ever-different and changing, and that is created by a system.” Over time, the term’s meaning evolved. It can refer to random music mixes created by multiple simultaneous music playback, it can refer to live rule-based computer composition.

Now that that’s out of the way, I can tell you that Intermorphic has multiple software applications that focus on generative music. Mixtikl is one of Intermorphic’s products – it is a generative music and loop mixer, a dedicated all-in-one generative music and audio loop mixer and cell sequencer. You can use it to create music for relaxation, meditation, sleep, and so on. Or you could use it to create intense mashups. The choice is yours to make.

Mixtikl is available for multiple platforms. It is available for desktops that run Microsoft’s Windows operating system and Apple’s Mac OS X. It is also available for mobiles that run Apple’s iOS or Google’s Android mobile operating system. And last but not least, it is available as VST and Audio Unit plug-ins for desktop music sequencers.

It shouldn’t take you long to figure out Mixtikl’s interface. That’s because everything is nicely laid out so you can easily access it. Not only is the interface quite easy to use, it is good looking as well. And speaking about good looks, the effects that Mixtikl displays during music playback are quite good looking. And speaking about music playback, it must be mentioned that Mixtikl comes bundled with multiple examples. Load and play an example to get a taste of what can be achieved with Mixtikl.

Mixtikl is free to use for a trial period of 30 days. A prompt will show up every time you launch the trial. It will tell you how many days are left in your trial and will invite you to purchase a license.

Mixtikl is a properly good mixer for creating generative music. I have to agree with Intermorphic’s claim that Mixtikl is quite possibly the most powerful generative music mixer there is.
